Australia beat the Netherlands to the semi-finals in the Davis Cup on Tuesday evening. On the hard court of Malaga, Spain, it already made a decisive gap (2-0) after the singles.
Jordan Thompson (ATP 84) gave the Australians the lead after the first singles match. He beat Tallon Greek track (ATP 96) after an exciting three-setter with 4-6, 7-5 and 6-3. The game ended up lasting 2 hours and 55 minutes.
In the second singles match, another captivating three-setter followed, which once again turned out in favor of Australia. Alex De Minaur (ATP 24) got rid of Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP 35) after 2 hours and 40 minutes with 5-7, 6-3 and 6-4.
Australia will face the winner of the clash between Croatia and Spain in the semi-finals. On the other side of the table, Italy vs. the United States and Germany vs. Canada form the remaining liners in the fight for a ticket to the final four.
