Nancy Crampton Brophy is 71 years old

The American writer who wrote an essay titled “How to Kill Your Husband” was sentenced to life in prison this Tuesday for killing her husband.

The sentence was handed down on Monday by a court in Oregon, in the northwestern United States, which had previously found Nancy Crampton Brophy guilty of murdering Daniel Brophy.

A 12-person jury reached a verdict after two days of deliberations and further ruled that life imprisonment is only open to the possibility of parole after 25 years (when Nancy is 96 years old), writes BBC. The defense has already announced that it will appeal.

The 71-year-old woman reportedly murdered her husband to whom she had been married for 26 years to receive US$1.5 million (about €1.4 million) in life insurance.

The crime dates back to June 2018. Daniel Brophy, 63, was killed at the cooking school where he taught at the Oregon Culinary Institute and found on the kitchen floor by students.

The woman was arrested in September of that year and has been in preventive detention since then.
