The Grand Prix of China in Formula 1 will almost certainly be removed from the calendar next year. According to the BBC, this is due to the tightened measures in the country against the corona virus. The 2023 race at the Shanghai circuit is scheduled for April 16.

Formula 1 itself has not released any statements yet, but the British public broadcaster claims that Formula 1 is already out and China is being skipped for the fourth year in a row.

China’s two largest cities, Beijing and Guangzhou, announced further restrictions on Monday due to the rapidly rising number of corona infections. A strict policy still applies in the country, including lockdowns, strict controls and forced quarantine.

No exception

Formula 1 does not want to send the teams to Shanghai, if there is a risk of mandatory isolation in the event of a positive test for corona. The Chinese authorities also do not want to make an exception for the traveling motorsport group.

The Chinese Formula 1 Grand Prix has been canceled for the past three years due to the corona pandemic. Lewis Hamilton won the last Chinese GP in Shanghai in 2019.
