Chiefs and counties may return

It is located on the side of the parliament document according to:

Act LXVI of 1992 on the registration of personal data and addresses of citizens. In Section 30 (2) (b) of Act No.

Reviving historical traditions

In the explanatory memorandum – what the pierced – the amendment was explained:

in the relevant sectoral laws, it changes the name of the government commissioner to a chieftain in the name of respecting and reviving historical traditions.

As it can be read in the text of the proposal: “the reintroduction of the term chief into the Hungarian legal system creates an opportunity for today’s Hungarian administration to be more closely linked to the conceptual set of pre-communist Hungarian state administration, and thus to survive the constitutional traditions of millennial Hungarian statehood”.

According to them, there are also many examples of the use of terms dating back to earlier times in European countries. The Anglo-Saxon countries were mentioned as an example, where in many places the elected leaders of local governments are still used today. alderman a term that means mayor and is “a beautiful, ancient synonym for the more bureaucratic-sounding and emotional mayor that captures the sacredness of the profession”.

A similar example has been cited in the Netherlands, where those in positions in the territorial administration are not advised but Wethoudertranslated into Hungarian as a right holder or a judge.

Counties instead of counties?

Meanwhile, the leader of the Fidesz faction submitted a proposal for the eleventh amendment to the Basic Law on Tuesday. According to the motion of Máté Kocsis, it includes the change of the provisions concerning the territorial division of the country: “in view of the historical traditions and the achievements of our historical constitution, the names of the counties will change to counties”.

According to the explanation, the basic territorial units of the Hungarian public administration were the counties from the founding of the state until 1949.

The use of the word county was abolished by the dictatorial communist regime, which wanted to completely break with the former Hungarian constitutional and state administration system. The restoration of the use of the word county to today’s Hungarian legal system ensures that the constitutional traditions of the millennial Hungarian statehood will survive in this form as well. In addition, the use of the word county strengthens the idea of national belonging, the preservation of our common historical memories and at the same time the national character of Hungarian democracy.

THE county By using the term, it can be better emphasized that the central motive of the Hungarian state organization and state structure is the protection of national sovereignty and, through it, the cornerstones of European civilization, the explanatory memorandum to the 11th amendment to the Basic Law contains.

Adoption of the proposal requires a two-thirds majority of the votes cast.

County, county? – what is the difference?

The often changing administrative structure of Hungary has existed for about a thousand years. Until the end of the Second World War, only the name of the county was officially used, but in that vernacular the area was already referred to as a synonym. The Soviet model of the Hungarian People’s Republic in 1949. made the term “county” exclusive in law, after which the word county could only be used as a historical designation.

The king’s representatives were the chiefs in charge of the administrative unit headed by the counties. At the end of the 19th century, in addition to the county chiefs, chiefs were appointed to head the free royal towns. As is the name of the county, the office of chieftain existed until 1950.
