Child pornography: Visa subject to legal proceedings in California

A class action lawsuit has been filed in California against MindGeek, owner of the largest digital pornography platforms. The company would host videos of a sexual nature shot when the complainants were sometimes minors, even children, and broadcast without their knowledge. If MindGeek has been faced with the same complaints in two other class actions, in 2020 and 2021, a newcomer is called to the bar: the payment company Visa, which collects the pornography giant’s memberships and advertising revenue.

According to the complaint, Visa is, among other things, complicit in violations of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPRA), relates the site The Verge. While the trial is in its preparatory phase, Visa has asked to be removed from the list of defendants. A request refused by the Californian justice on July 29.
