China poses as mediator of peace in the Horn of Africa

It is a meeting under the aegis of China which took place, very symbolically, at the headquarters of the African Union. Indeed, on June 20 and 21, the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, hosted a conference organized by China, qualified by the South China Morning Post of “first gathering on peace and governance” organized by Beijing for the region.

This conference was presented by China as a platform for countries in the Horn of Africa to settle their differences through negotiations. Were present during these two days Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda.

During this conference, the special Chinese envoy for the region, Xue Bing, proposed to “to mediate disputes in the region, where China’s multi-billion dollar investments have held up amid long-simmering conflicts,” also reports the English-language daily established in Hong Kong.

A mediation offer very interested

Regarding the Chinese method, Xue Bing, appointed last February for this newly created position, indicated that he was “ready to provide mediation efforts for the peaceful settlement of disputes on the basis of the will of the countries of this region”, report it South China Morning Post.
