Completion of deal on Iranian nuclear program is "a matter of days"

The conclusion of an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, after several months of negotiations in Vienna, is a matter of days, said this Saturday the head of diplomacy of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell.

“We are very close to that, but there are still some outstanding issues,” Josep Borrell told reporters on the sidelines of the Doha Forum in Qatar, adding that he could not say “when or how, but it is a matter of days.”

The EU coordinator in negotiations with Iran, Enrique Mora, is expected tonight in Tehran, the Iranian capital.

Enrique Mora is due to meet on Sunday with Ali Baghéri, Iran’s top negotiator, according to the country’s official news agency, IRNA.

Iran has been negotiating for several months in Vienna, the capital of Austria, with China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom and Germany, to relaunch the 2015 agreement that was supposed to prevent Tehran from obtaining the atomic bomb.

In return, the Islamic Republic, which has always denied wanting to have atomic weapons, wants to lift the sanctions that strangle its economy.
