Texas – Cheers from many people on the the whole world: Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones (48) now has to dig deep into his pocket because of one of his lies. A US court in the state of Texas sentenced the “InfoWars” operator to pay almost 50 million US dollars (around 49.1 million euros)!
Alex Jones is one of the most influential and famous conspiracy theorists in the world. With his sometimes absurd lies, false reports and myths, he reached an audience of millions at times – especially in his home country, the United States.
Not only the countless untruths that he sprinkles into the daily social and political discourse have already caused a stir – also his proven false statements about the moon landing, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and the shooting spree at the “Sandy Hook Elementary School” in the 2012 triggered waves of outrage.
That killing spree was now the starting point of the trial in Texas. In December 2012, a Connecticut elementary school shooting killed 28 people, including 20 children.

But Jones didn’t believe that a 20-year-old was (alone) responsible for the bloodbath. He claimed for years that the US government only staged the killing spree so that it could tighten gun laws afterwards.
Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, the parents of Jesse Lewis, one of the victims, sued over it. They suffered from what Jones said and what his extreme followers did.
The court agreed with the parents, as among other things CNN Business reported: Jones has to pay 45.2 million US dollars as so-called “punitive damages” in addition to 4.1 million US dollars in damages.
The parents’ lawyer had emotionally demanded earlier on Friday: “We are asking you to send a very, very simple message and that is to stop Alex Jones. Stop making money with misinformation and lies. Please.”
For Jones, who has repeatedly embezzled funds over the years and claimed during the process that he did not have as much income, the issue is far from off the table. Two more processes are waiting – the parents of other victims have also complained against him.

And how did the conspiracy theorist react to the verdict? Unsurprisingly, he jumped in front of the mic at home and insinuated that the whole trial was one big conspiracy.
He admitted in court that the “Sandy Hook” massacre was actually a killing spree and not a staging…
