After the controversy what happened after declaring Lanín volcano Mapuche sacred sitethe national government decided that repeal said resolution. What alerted the State were the words of the president of Neuquén, Omar Gutierrezwho had described this decision as “an attack on the autonomies, an act of centralism and an interference.”
The move created a big protest in the province. Gutiérrez described it as a violation of provincial autonomy and, in this sense, warned that would take legal action consequently.
Faced with this scenario, according to The nationthe National Parks Administration -despite having signed this resolution- will convene a participatory dialogue table to the province of Neuquén and to the native communities.
The complaint of the governor of Neuquén after declaring the Lanín volcano a sacred Mapuche site
Through Twitter, the governor of Neuquén, Omar Gutierrezmade a disclaimer about this resolution: “The National Parks decided to declare the Lanín volcano a ‘sacred site’, so one-sided and unanswerednot knowing that resource domain is provincial. It’s a run over the autonomies, an act of centralism and an interference”.
He explained that the existence of national enclaves, such as the Parks Administration, does not authorize the erasure of the letter of the Constitution, “trampling” the provincial constitutional powers. For this, he warned that he could take the corresponding administrative and legal actions.
After qualifying it as an illegitimate and illegal act, he pointed out that there are many institutional examples of dialogue, among them the process of Prior, Free and Informed Consultation, which he himself recently put into practice, within the framework of the construction of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline.
To close, the Neuquén president pointed out: “The Lanín is a symbol of Neuquén identity and belongs to all Neuquén men and women”. This complaint quickly reached the ears of the national government.
The controversy over the Lanín volcano alerted Juan Cabandie’s portfolio
