“We don’t need a state-fixed isolation obligation,” said the FDP health politician Andrew Ullmann (59) on Saturday on Deutschlandfunk. Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein had recently lifted the obligation to isolate, and Hesse is expected to follow on Wednesday.

Ullmann said: “Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein are doing it right.”

That does not mean that there is a ban on isolation or sick leave, Ullmann said. Sick people should take sick leave and stay at home. If an employee of a hospital that works with immunocompromised people has a positive test, he has no business there.

“But these are individual decisions that can be made and do not have to be fixed by the state,” said the FDP politician.

When asked whether he wanted to ask Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (59, SPD) to end the obligation to isolate in Germany, Ullmann said: “We want to initiate the discussion.”

The Infection Protection Act provides that the relevant regulations apply until April. But in view of positive changes, the traffic light must think about general basic measures.

Ullmann, who is a doctor himself, argued: “The state’s obligation to isolate hasn’t worked for a long time anyway.” He had Covid in the summer and to this day he has not received any notification from the health department in Berlin.

In addition, a positive test in people without symptoms says nothing about “how contagious someone is, if at all”. At the same time, Ullman advocated tests “if you have symptoms”.
