Valdecir Alves dos Santos, 43, was identified as the cyclist who died on Friday night (6th) after being hit by a motorcyclist, on Avenida Nasri Siufi, in Jardim Tijuca, in Campo Grande. The motorcycle’s rider, retired police officer Álvaro da Silva Prates, 58, also died.
Experts and Civil Police investigators are still at the scene, investigating the circumstances of the tragedy. One of the avenue’s lanes, towards downtown/neighborhood, is still closed for forensic analysis.
The crash took place near the intersection of the avenue and Rua Imbirussu. Álvaro piloted a 600cc Yamaha XJ6 motorcycle. With the force of the impact the victims were thrown at least 30 meters from the crash site. The collision was so violent that a swollen one that was carried by Valdecir broke.
Family and friends of the retired police officer are upset at the scene. “He was a very nice person, calm, in his own way. It’s a huge loss,” said a church colleague of the retired policeman. The weapon that Álvaro used to use was not found at the scene. Family members also search the victim’s home.
Police officers from the BPTran (Military Traffic Police Battalion) and from Choque are monitoring the incident. Both Samu (Mobile Emergency Care Service) and the Fire Department were called to the accident, but the two victims died on the spot.
