The fierce fire that occurred in a Chinese factory was caused by “employee misconduct”. Chinese state media reported this on Tuesday. The incident killed 38 people.

The fire at the Kaixinda Trading factory, in Anyang city in Henan province, broke out during Monday and was extinguished by evening. More than 200 rescue workers and 60 firefighters were deployed. Images on social media show thick clouds of black smoke hovering over the factory.

“According to initial elements, the fire was caused by an employee’s manipulation in violation of company regulations. An electrical welding operation was the cause of the fire,” state broadcaster CCTV said. According to the state media, “suspects” have been arrested in the meantime, but further details are not given.

Kaixinda Trading is a wholesaler of machinery, building materials, non-hazardous chemicals, clothing and fire fighting equipment.
