Death toll in explosion at Havana hotel rises to 45

Cuban authorities raised the death toll to 45 on Thursday in the explosion that took place on Friday, due to a gas leak, at the Saratoga hotel in Havana.

In addition to having identified the last body found, the Cuban authorities also ended the search operations this Thursday.

The most recent report by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) increased the number of injured to 99, of whom 15 are hospitalized.

Among the fatal victims, aged between 10 and 77, were four minors and a pregnant woman, all of whom were Cubans except for a 29-year-old Spanish woman.

The Cuban government has reiterated on several occasions, since the explosion that took place on Friday morning, that it was a gas leak and a commission is investigating the incident.

At the time of the explosion, a liquefied gas tanker was parked in front of the hotel and refilling a tank at the establishment, with the possibility that the hose may have broken.
