the minister of Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraessaid this Saturday, 14th, at a congress in Salvador (BA), that the democracy will be guaranteed in Brazil with clean elections carried out through the electronic voting machines.
“We are going to guarantee democracy in Brazil with clean, transparent and electronic elections,” said the minister, who will preside over the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) during the 2022 elections.
“On December 19, whoever wins will be certified under the Constitution, and the Judiciary will continue to monitor and guarantee democracy,” he added.
Moraes’ speech comes at a time when the president Jair Bolsonaro has again questioned the fairness of the country’s electronic voting system and raised suspicions about whether or not it will respect the outcome of this year’s presidential race.
Rapporteur of the inquiry that investigates Bolsonarist allies for allegedly integrating digital militias aimed at attacking democracy, Moraes also took advantage of his speech at the event to send a message to the members of these groups, stating that the internet “gave voice to imbeciles”.
“Every four years there are elections, and these digital militias know that. The Judiciary cannot and will not cower, I am absolutely sure of that. The Judiciary cannot and will not cower in the face of these aggressions”, said the minister. “The internet has given imbeciles a voice. Since it is not possible to attack the people, they began to attack the instruments that guarantee democracy,” he added.
Moraes gave a speech of about 30 minutes during the Brazilian Congress of Magistrates, in the capital of Bahia.
