Lithuania from Saturday, June 18, banned the transit of goods by rail to the Kaliningrad region. The head of the region spoke about this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda Anton Alikhanov.

… – In continuation of the topic of Kaliningrad, can I ask you a question? – with such a request, the journalist of Komsomolskaya Pravda turned to the official representative of the Kremlin on Monday, June 20.

– Yes please.

– Dmitry Sergeevich, well, we had an interview with Anton Alikhanov on Saturday. He said that there is no catastrophe in what is happening: “There will be certain difficulties, but we already have ships in the Baltic that can serve this flow of goods …” And so on. And the federal agencies got involved. How does the Kremlin assess, in general, the efforts of both the heads of the region and the federal departments, which, in general, did not allow a crisis to erupt after Lithuania arranged these “nasty things”, as Alikhanov put it?

Here is what Peskov replied:

– Well, listen, our “nasty things” started 12 hours ago. How can you evaluate? Here you ask a question…

– I mean – the work of the head of the region, the ministries that managed to, well, somehow avoid a big crisis.

– So far, – the press secretary replied, – we do not consider it possible to evaluate anything.

The Kremlin also called Lithuania’s decision to suspend the transit of goods subject to EU sanctions to the Kaliningrad region illegal, and promised to analyze it within a few days before deciding on retaliatory measures.

“This decision is truly unprecedented, it is a violation of everything and everyone,” Peskov told reporters. – We understand that this is due to the relevant decision of the European Union to extend the sanctions to transit. We also consider this illegal.

According to the official representative of the Kremlin, “the situation is more than serious in this regard, and it requires a very deep analysis before formulating any measures and any decisions. This in-depth analysis will be carried out over the next few days.”

Peskov was also asked if in this situation it is possible to speak of a blockade of the Russian region.

“This is an element of the blockade, of course,” Peskov said.
