The Economic Competition Authority (GVH) supports traders with an educational video in the legal practice of displaying prices and holding promotions so that Hungarians can more easily consider the promised discounts – it can be read on the GVH’s website.
Since May 28, 2022, for all domestic traders
more clear rules you must list the prices according to
in order for consumers to be able to consider promotional offers in an informed manner.
Following the changes in the legislation, the national competition authority examined in the framework of a comprehensive rapid analysis, what steps were taken by the actors of a sector selected as a sample and offering frequent price reductions and coupon campaigns – the domestic webshops selling clothing products – to provide adequate information to consumers.
Positive and negative examples
Based on the results of the rapid analysis, the authority formulated several proposals for the traders, which were summarized in an educational video. The video presents the renewed set of legal requirements in an easy-to-understand manner, through positive and negative examples, and at the same time provides assistance in eliminating the identified typical price marking problems. The purpose of the authority is to support traders operating in Hungary in understanding the system of rules and adapting to them.
In this way, businesses can avoid consumer and authority legal disputes arising from deceptive promotions, and consumers can come across clear and easy-to-understand promotions in domestic stores and online stores.
