Traffic driver was arrested this Thursday (12) with almost two tons of marijuana in the municipality of Sete Quedas, next to Paraguayan territory. When he noticed the presence of DOF (Department of Border Operations) police officers, he returned to flee to the other side of the international line, but was detained. The 41-year-old man was wanted by the courts.
According to the DOF, the police were blocking the region known as “Correntão”, between the municipalities of Sete Quedas and Iguatemi, when they saw the truck. Upon noticing the vehicle on the road, the driver tried to maneuver the truck to enter Paraguay, but was intercepted before reaching the neighboring country.
When they removed the canvas from the body of the Volkswagen truck, the police found the bundles of marijuana. The drug weighed 1,940 kilos and was valued by the DOF at at least R$4 million.
The driver said he was hired for R$2,000 and took the truck from a gas station in Sete Quedas to take it to Iguatemi. However, the final destination of the cargo would be Paraná. The arrest warrant against him had been issued by the Justice in Rio Brilhante, but the reason was not disclosed.
The drug and the truck driver were taken to the Civil Police station in Sete Quedas, where the man was booked in flagrante delicto for drug trafficking.
