Through a message on his Twitter account, Lasso confirmed the content of Executive Decree No. 601 where the curfew is established between 01:00 and 05:00 starting this Wednesday, November 23 in the territories mentioned.

The decree was issued “considering the reduction of criminal acts,” Lasso published, and that despite the measure “we will maintain strict controls to safeguard the safety of all,” he assured.

According to the General Directorate of Citizen Security and Public Order of the Police, they recommended the new measure because there was a 20 percent reduction in criminal events from November 1 to 20, compared to the period between October 12 and 31. .

Trade union organizations such as the Association of Restaurants, Catering and Event Organizers of Guayaquil and the Chamber of Tourism of Guayas, had requested the repeal of the curfew, alleging a reduction in sales between 50 and 70 percent, and the loss of 15,000 jobs.

This is the second modification made by the Ecuadorian Government to the movement restriction schedule, since initially they had placed it between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

Additionally, on November 9, it was slightly reduced from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The state of exception was imposed by a wave of extreme violence in several regions of the country that forced the president to set up his command post in Guayaquil, and which will presumably be in force until next December 16.
