Today is Saint Anthony’s Day, patron saint of Campo Grande, also famous as the matchmaker saint. The traditional delivery of the cake with rings began early in the parish located on Avenida Calógeras. And anyone who thinks that only the singles jumped in early to guarantee the cake is wrong, even the married ones showed up in weight asking for blessing in life and love.

Glazier Janderson Aparecido Ribeiro, 53, was one of the first in line and bought five cakes for himself, wife, daughter and grandchildren. “This time I bought it hoping to find the ring. I am already married, but if I find it I will renew my vows”, he justified.

Who also believes in the power of the saint to unite couples more, especially in this month of lovers, is public servant Jessica Menin, 33, who arrived at 6:40 am to guarantee the cake.

She has participated in the tradition for 13 years and, on account of her patron, she married six years ago. “I already found the ring and got married the same year I found it”, she recalls. Today, finding the ring is synonymous with renewing faith and love for one’s husband. “It brings blessings to the marriage and to my whole family. In addition, this moment represents faith in the patron, it has become a tradition and every year I insist on this blessing”.

The maid Rita de Cássia Feitosa, 44, got up early in the queue and is a newcomer to the tradition. “First time I’m buying and I hope to get married later this year. Not dating yet, but who knows until the end of the year? Santo Antônio will fix it, I’m hopeful, the alliance is definitely in this cake”, said the faithful Catholic.

Minutes before the start of the deliveries, Father Wagner de Souza said a prayer and once again blessed the tradition, which unites faith and love. This year, the goal was to sell 7 thousand cakes and it was achieved, so the volunteers produced another 400 units to sell this Monday (13).

“The testimony of the people who have participated in the party is wonderful, because people have received many graces, so every year we have to increase production. It is wonderful to see this union and witness the blessings of Saint Anthony”, declared the priest, happy with another successful celebration.

The cake will be sold until 1 pm this Monday. At noon there will be a mass in the church and at 7 pm there will be a mass in Praça do Rádio Clube, after the procession that will leave the church at 6 pm.
