Even the freezer is robbed after a pig is slaughtered

Budapest has the highest number of burglaries and burglaries, while Zala County is the safest in this respect, according to official statistics for 2020.

According to the data, the number of burglary thefts in Hungary decreased significantly in the first year of the pandemic: while in 2016 there were more than 23,000 burglaries, in 2020, 11,000 such cases were registered.

Looking at burglary trends in Hungary over a decade, it appears that the number of crimes has fallen by about a quarter in ten years. The situation is similar with home burglaries, of which 6983 were registered in 2020, and before 2018 the number of domestic cases was still four digits.

The insurance company Groupama also reported the Money center that less and less property has been confiscated by thieves than in recent decades. What thieves still like to travel to:

  • jewellery,
  • money stored at home, precious metal,
  • better quality laptop,
  • mechanical equipment from the apartment under construction before installation,
  • better quality branded power tools stored in outbuildings,
  • valuable musical instrument.

Allianz’s experience is that in addition to family silver, more recently, home digital devices have fallen victim primarily to theft, including TVs, laptops and cell phones, as well as smart home equipment, smart games and smart pet devices.

It’s also a hit in the winter, when thieves snatch the products of the current pig slaughter just out of the freezer.

In addition to the belongings already mentioned, Aegon’s list also includes valuable watches as well as branded clothing. Just as K&H put the following on the theft popularity list: cash, jewelry, laptops, tablets, cell phones, garden machines and small technical items.
