After massive complaints from business people and restaurateurs, the municipality blocked a private passageway near a fountain on Wilhelmstrasse with concrete blocks, Mayor Nikolas Häckel said on Thursday.

This was done in consultation with the owners to protect their property and to avoid further contamination. Especially since the introduction of the 9-euro ticket, many punks have traveled to the island and often caused trouble there.

There have been problems in the community for weeks, confirmed Häckel. The frustration of homeowners, restaurateurs and tradespeople and the economic damage are great.

He informed the North Friesland district police committee and the state government about the problems. “However, the community of Sylt is dependent on the police to enforce regulatory measures,” said Häckel.

The field service of the public order office is often on site and is also supported by a security service at the weekends.
