The test day consisted of a session that lasted nine hours in total and in which each F1 team was allowed to enter two F1 cars. In addition, there was one car that was specifically intended for a driver with fewer than three F1 races on his record. The second car was for testing Pirelli’s prototype tires for 2023.

It is striking that Ferrari ended the test day with its three drivers at the very top, with Ferrari junior Robert Shwartzman who barely had to give in to the two regular drivers.

There weren’t really any major incidents and the drivers were able to complete a lot of laps. Tire supplier Pirelli in particular will have been happy with this, because the test in Abu Dhabi is crucial for the further development of the tires for the 2023 F1 season.

For several drivers it was also a first unique opportunity to test for their new team. The Dutchman Nyck de Vries was able to test for the AlphaTauri F1 team, where he will complete his first season in Formula 1 next year. In addition, Fernando Alonso has already tested with Aston Martin, Pierre Gasly with Alpine and Nico Hulkenberg with the Haas F1 team.

The F1 teams are now entering the winter with further development. This will be followed by the winter break around the holidays, after which the countdown is on to the presentations of the new F1 cars and the first race of the new F1 season on March 5, 2023 in Bahrain.
