The fire brigade is also struggling with forest fires in the Vogtland. There was a fire in Falkenstein on Friday and in Bösenbrunn in the evening.

On Friday afternoon, the emergency services were called to a forest fire near the Falkenstein dam. The fire spread rapidly there due to the sometimes strong wind.

Luck in disguise: Quick intervention prevented worse things from happening. How the fire started is currently unclear.

On Friday evening the next operation at Bösenbrunn, near Oelsnitz: A farmer’s grain field was on fire. The fire also spread quickly – according to local information, a large part of the crop fell victim to the fire. The property damage is said to amount to several tens of thousands of euros.

Due to the wind, the flames also spread to an adjacent forest area, and the fire brigade had their hands full. However, the fire was brought under control here as well.

During the night on Saturday, rain in Bavaria caused some cooling. Temperatures plummeted to ten degrees. At the same time, the risk of forest fires fell – in the Vogtland, in the Zwickau district and in Chemnitz, even to the lowest level.

But the risk of fire is coming back: as of Monday, level three out of five should apply again in large parts of Saxony, and even the second highest level in northern Saxony.

Further precipitation is not in sight for the coming week either. Means: The risk of forest fires will probably remain high for days.
