In the past few days, firefighters have repeatedly come to the fire area voluntarily and offered their help.

However, the district office of Saxon Switzerland had to reject the brave volunteers, as the authority reports:

“For organizational and insurance reasons, only firefighters who are in structured units and are requested by the administrative staff of the district may be deployed in the current fire.”

After all, the authority expressed its gratitude that it shows “once again the cohesion of society in the event of a disaster”.

On Friday, around 600 emergency services fought the forest fire near the Czech border on the Saxon side, supported by twelve helicopters and three water cannons. Little has changed in the situation, as Yamina Benamara (28) reports from the district office.

The affected area is still around 150 hectares in size. Residential areas are not threatened. The German weather service predicted isolated showers during the night, but no rain is expected for the coming week.
