Forest fire near Treuenbrietzen: flames are spreading again, the district has to be evacuated
Treunbrietzen – The situation in the forest fire near Frohnsdorf near Treuenbrietzen (Potsdam-Mittelmark) remained stable on Saturday. The fire site could be limited, said Raimund Engel, forest fire protection officer in the state Brandenburg. “That’s a good thing,” he said. In the evening, however, the fire spread again. A district even had to be evacuated.
On Friday, a forest fire broke out on about 60 hectares, meanwhile there are still a good 40 hectares.
The control center of the fire brigade in Brandenburg/Havel reported further fires in the afternoon. Around 160 cubic meters of compost caught fire in Jühnsdorf (Teltow-Fläming). The fire has been extinguished, the spokesman said. However, the follow-up checks would take some time.
In Lüdendorf near Treuenbrietzen, 3 hectares of forest caught fire. The forest also burned in Radeland, a district of the town of Baruth/Mark. The fire was stopped shortly before the settlement boundary. Firefighters were also called to a fire in the Altes Lager area, a district of the municipality of Niedergörsdorf. Those fires are under control but not yet extinguished, the spokesman said.

A federal police helicopter was also used on Saturday for the large forest fire that broke out near Frohnsdorf on Friday. He is supposed to tip fire-fighting water over the area on every flight until nightfall.
The work of firefighters from several districts is made more difficult because there are dangerous ordnance in the area.

He was glad that the fire had been contained, said Kai-Uwe Schwinzert, spokesman for the Potsdam-Mittelmark district. So far, no further extension of the fire had to be registered. “But it’s still hot and there’s a lot of smoke,” he said.
Possible winds in the evening hours are a concern for the experts on site. Flames could then be rekindled. A concern that has not remained unfounded.
The fire spread again on Saturday evening. The fire brigade has since sounded the emergency alarm. According to TAG24 information, a district (Tiefenbrunnen) even has to be evacuated.

Meanwhile, firefighters continue to battle the flames. Two fire protection units from the districts of Havelland and Elbe-Elster supported the firefighters on site on Saturday.
In all districts in Brandenburg, the highest forest fire danger level 5 applied on Saturday. Smaller fires were also registered in many places.
In 2018, around 400 hectares of forest were destroyed in a forest fire in Treuenbrietzen. Flames raged in the forest southwest of Berlin for several days. Due to the major fire, more than 500 people had to leave the villages of Frohnsdorf, Klausdorf and Tiefenbrunnen.
Update, 10:25 p.m .: The situation is deteriorating
The situation with the forest fire in Treuenbrietzen (Potsdam-Mittelmark) got worse on Saturday evening. The district administrator of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district had declared the disaster, said a spokesman for the regional control center of the fire brigade in Brandenburg an der Havel. The district announced that due to the increasing smoke development, there was a possibility that the residents of Tiefenbrunnen would have to be temporarily evacuated for reasons of caution.
