Within the scope of the 38th Havana International Fair, Germany celebrated its National Day this Thursday. When speaking with the press, the ambassador of the European country, Heidrun Tempel, said that many German businessmen are interested in doing business with Cuba, where some 60 German entities are represented in business or investment.
Germany is recognized worldwide for being a leading country in technology and industry and is among the top five trading partners of Cuba in Europe. 15 German companies participate in Fihav 2022 from sectors such as renewable energy and energy efficiency, video surveillance technologies, wastewater treatment and recycling, transportation, and the food sector.
Dianeisy Delgado López, an official of the German Office for the Promotion of Trade and Investment in Cuba, told cubadebate that Germany arrives at Fihav 2022, after two years without the fair being held due to the covid-9 pandemic, with great expectations, and that contact with the Cuban business community has been positive.
He explained that the Office has been represented in the largest of the Antilles since 2017 and works closely with the Cuban Chamber of Commerce. “Our main objective is to help German companies, especially small and medium-sized companies, to enter the Cuban market”he assured.
“We relate not only with state companies but also with the private sector and, in this way, we connect Cuban companies with German suppliers and providers of technologies in different sectors,” he said.
He commented that since the establishment of the Office in Havana, various projects have been carried out and German business trips to Cuba have been organized, mainly businessmen related to renewable energy and energy efficiency, who have worked together with the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Azcuba and the Institute of Hydraulic Resources.
The objective of these exchanges, he pointed out, is for German companies to present their products in the framework of a magisterial conference, and then individual talks are organized between the parties interested in establishing a business.
“In the context of the fair, several Cuban MSMEs have approached the Office to find out how they can connect with the German market”said Delgado López. He mentioned among them MSMEs from sectors such as construction, renewable energy, and light industry that are dedicated to the production of textiles and work with German machinery, and are interested in contacting partners that allow them to maintain their equipment.
The German Office for the Promotion of Trade and Investment in Cuba is part of the network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad, present in 150 cities in 92 countries.
