Guatemala reports 15 deaths due to rains

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) of Guatemala reported this Monday that the country reports 15 deaths due to the rains recorded in the country in recent weeks.

The Conred pointed out that the people who died as a result of this meteorological situation belong to the departments of Alta Verapaz, Chiquimula, Huehuetenango and Zacapa.

The update presented by the agency found that 500,082 people were affected and 824 have been reported at risk, 930 affected, 1,965 evacuated, 4,757 assisted and 60 located in shelters.



According to the report presented by the Guatemalan entity, the institutions that make up the System of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction have dealt with 273 incidents during the rainy season this year.

The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology expressed for its part that it expects an increase in rainfall over Guatemalan territory, due to the approach of a low pressure system located to the southwest of the Nicaraguan coast.

Given the atmospheric conditions that are expected, different events could occur, such as: floods, subsidence, landslides, landslides, mudflows, structural collapses, tree falls, among others.
