Private Artem Kotov and Sergeant Nikita Barnych

The Russian Ministry of Defense continues to acquaint the readers of Komsomolskaya Pravda with the heroes of the special operation “Z”, who inscribed themselves in the annals of the liberation of Ukrainian lands from the nationalist past. The award lists tell us how privates, sergeants and officers are fighting for the future of the citizens of Ukraine, overcoming the shock of injuries and the loss of colleagues. Russian military personnel are doing everything to minimize losses among the civilian population, sometimes even at the cost of their own lives.

Senior Lieutenant Ilshat Sultanov

“A tank platoon under the command of senior lieutenant Ilshat Sultanov was tasked with defending one of the settlements liberated from the armed formations of Ukrainian nationalists.

In order to return the lost positions, the armed Ukrainian radicals went on the offensive and attempted to break through the defenses in the zone of responsibility of the tank platoon of Ilshat Sultanov.

During a fierce battle, Ilshat’s tank destroyed a “roaming” mortar with a crew, as well as a large amount of enemy manpower.

Offering fierce resistance, the nationalists fired an aimed shot from an ATGM at Senior Lieutenant Sultanov’s tank, as a result of which the officer received a head injury, but, despite this, continued to fight and destroyed the enemy crew with return fire.

Thanks to the courage, steadfastness and dedication of senior lieutenant Ilshat Sultanov, all enemy attempts to penetrate the liberated settlement were repulsed, as a result of which the nationalist units retreated, having suffered significant losses.

Private Artem Kotov

“Private Artem Kotov provided rocket artillery units with ammunition. During the next march, the convoy of materiel, in which Artyom’s car was moving, was subjected to artillery and mortar fire from the enemy.

As a result of another volley of militants, Private Artem Kotov received a shrapnel wound to his hand from a shell that exploded nearby. The private was aware that hitting a car with ammunition would deprive Russian units of the possibility of an offensive, as well as lead to an explosion and losses in the convoy. Artyom independently provided medical assistance to himself, after which he took the car out from under enemy fire to a safe place.

As a result of the competent and selfless actions of Private Artem Kotov, the ammunition was protected from enemy attacks and delivered to the positions of Russian artillery units in a timely manner.”

Sergeant Nikita Barnych

“Sergeant Nikita Barnych performed the task of guarding trucks with ammunition for the howitzer division.

The enemy decided to attack the positions of the division. The attack of the radicals on Russian units was accompanied by massive mortar support.

In the conditions of incessant fire, Nikita, skillfully orienting himself in the situation, realizing that a projectile hitting a car with ammunition would lead to a powerful explosion capable of destroying a large number of manpower and equipment of the Russian howitzer division, gave the command to his subordinates to remove vehicles with shells from under fire. Performing anti-fire maneuvers, Sergeant Barnych was able to get the car out of the enemy mortar fire to a safe place.

As a result of the decisive and selfless actions of Sergeant Nikita Barnych, the enemy attack was repulsed. At the same time, there were no losses in the division.”
