Iga Swiatek, the number 1 in the world, easily qualified for the final of the WTA 1,000 tournament in Rome on Saturday. The Polish, who defends her title on the Italian clay, defeated the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (WTA 8) 6-2 and 6-1.

In the final, Swiatek will play against the Tunisian Ons Jabeur (WTA 7) or the Russian Daria Kasatkina (WTA 23) on Sunday.

For twenty-year-old Swiatek, it was already the 27th consecutive victory on Saturday. She thus equals the winning streak of the American Serena Williams from 2015. Only Justine Henin (32 victories), Serena (34 victories) and Venus Williams (35 victories) did even better this century.

The Polish won the last four tournaments in which she participated (Stuttgart, Miami, Indian Wells and Doha) and has not lost since mid-February, when she collided with Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in the eighth finals in Dubai. On Sunday she is aiming for an eighth WTA title. The Polish has a grand slam title on her honors list with Roland Garros (2020).
