The item with the highest increase in the month was Clothing and footwear (9.9%)followed by Restaurants and hotels (7.3%) Y Health (6.4%). In the latter case, the increase in the share of prepaid medicine had a great impact.
The increase in Food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.9%) was the one with the highest incidence in all regions. Within this division, the increase in meat and derivatives; Bread and cereals; and Milk, milk products and eggs, for being the ones that had the most incidence this month.
At the other end, Fruits and Vegetables, tubers and legumes were among those with the lowest incidence, with falls even in some regions in the latter case.
The frustrated expectations of the government
In the midst of the “War against inflation” announced by the Government, the expectations of lowering inflation in April seem not to be met. Government points to tariff segmentation which will give the possibility of removing subsidies, according to what Guzmán mentioned, to the “economic capacity”.
“2,3 or 3 points of GDP from energy subsidies is not healthy for Argentina”, affirmed Guzmán and asked himself: “What is the point of subsidizing the energy of wealthy sectors?”.
And lastly, he stressed that “there is a decision by the President to create a tariff scheme to take care of the pocket of the sectors that require certain assistance from the State” and assured that “the corresponding actions will be carried out so that this can be done.”
