The MMA Minister; Maisa Rojas pointed out that the technical teams have already presented the advances in the governance of the basin councils and are in the final phase to make a concrete proposal to the governors and start with the 16 pilots.

This Thursday, the Interministerial Committee for Just Water Transition -coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment (MMA)-boarded the design of river basin councils as basic organisms for the governance of water resourcesand the work plan for the coming months.

The Minister of the Environment, Maisa Rojas, highlighted that “the technical teams presented us with the advances in the governance of the basin councils and we are already in the final phase to make a concrete proposal to the governors and start with these 16 pilots. Basin-level governance will allow an effective solution to the water crisis that the country has been facing for more than a decade,” he said in a statement.

The Interministerial Committee for Just Water Transition search advancing in a new water governance considering all the actors present in the country’s basins and what can it be promoted together with regional and local governments. and has been mandated for advance a roadmap for the short, medium and long term in water matters.

The instance assumed the challenge of the hydric crisis and will work in the articulation of immediate actions, that allow face the risk of water and energy rationing, the requirements of rural drinking water, small peasant agriculture and productive activities, as well as ecosystem preservation, says a statement.
