József Tóth died

According to the UTE’s social media page, his funeral will be arranged later in consultation with the family.

József Tóth was born in Mosonmagyaróvár, started playing football there, moved to Pécs in 1969 and then to Újpest in 1975. He played in the latter team until 1984, scored three goals in 268 matches, was champion twice with the purple and whites (1977/78, 1978/79) and won the Hungarian Cup twice (1982, 1983).

Between 1984 and 1986, the footballer played in the MTK-VM in the top league, and then finished his career in the Finnish IF Kraft team. During the Finnish championship break – from November 1986 – he played for Erzsébeti SMTK in the NB III.

József Tóth played 56 times for the Hungarian national team between 1974 and 1983 and scored one goal. The Újpest recently lost József Tóth’s teammates, András Törőcsik and József Kardos.
