In recent years, Netflix has started to cancel several series without fear, especially after the airing of their first seasons. Although a portion of the public is upset about these issues, the streaming platform follows this somewhat impolite policy.
Below, you can check out a list of ten good series that, unfortunately, didn’t have the chance to be developed any longer on streaming. Look!
10. Julie and the Phantoms (2020)
The first series on the list was based on the Brazilian production of the same name, shown by Band and Nickelodeon. However, the Netflix adaptation brought new elements to viewers.
Even so, the launch of the 1st season seems to have not reached the numbers desired by the platform, something that culminated in its almost instantaneous cancellation. In addition, the coronavirus pandemic also appears to have been a determining factor.
9. Bounty Hunters (2020)
The script for the series starring Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini brought numerous comic situations. But that wasn’t enough to hold the viewers’ attention.
The production, which tells the story of two twin sisters who became bounty hunters, garnered good reviews, but was still mercilessly canceled by the streaming giant after the airing of its 1st season.
8. Dash & Lily (2020)
Set in Christmas and based on the novel of the same name by writers David Levithan and Rachel Cohn, the series bet on the development of its main characters, precisely, the lonely Dash and the hopeful Lily. The two went on to correspond for tickets in a fun game on Christmas Eve.
With much enthusiasm, the episodes showed how Lily, despite being restrained by her family, still believed in the Christmas spirit and Dash, who was won over by Lily without even knowing her.
7. Cursed: Legend of the Lake (2020)
Steeped in Arthurian legends, the series takes on a new perspective on the myth through the eyes of Nimue (Katherine Langford), a young woman with the ability to transform into the Lady of the Lake.
With that, she embarks on a journey in search of the mysterious Mage Merlin and the holy sword, which may be the solution to several problems in her region. Although the plot was interesting, the budget was considered too expensive by Netflix.
6. grand army (2021)
Escaping the molds that usually make up teen series, grand army showed, with great responsibility and dynamism, the routine of students at a public school in New York. Among dramas suitable for the age group of the protagonists, social problems and contemporary discussions, the series ended up being cancelled, among other issues, due to lack of public engagement.
5. Sense8 (2015)
Responsible for Matrixthe Wachowski sisters tried very hard, but unfortunately, Netflix hasn’t fully sided with the filmmakers.
When launched, Sense8 caught the attention of viewers and was very successful, being commented on daily on social networks. However, the high cost of production, especially due to the amount of locations and characters, forced the streaming platform to cancel the project in its 2nd season.
4. Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Expectations for the release of this series were quite high, but the public seems not to have bought into the live-action idea of such an important anime. Cowboy Bebop suffered from a sluggish development, although it had richness in its artistic conception. It didn’t take long for Netflix to cancel production and try to forget what had happened.
3. I Am Not Okay With This (2020)
Victim of the coronavirus pandemic, the series was launched in February 2020, generating good ratings. However, due to the uncertainty of the period, the project was canceled in August of that year. It was a teen drama in which Sydney (Sophia Lillis) tried to understand her own sexuality while dealing with the discovery of her supernatural powers.
two. away (2020)
Starring Oscar winner Hilary Swank, the Netflix sci-fi had everything to be a big hit, mainly because of its emotional appeal. The plot approached an astronaut who left her family on Earth to explore Mars with her team on a mission full of uncertainties.
This somewhat beaten theme did not convince the subscribers and the ratings became unsatisfactory for the company, which opted for the cancellation of the series in less than a month after it became available.
1. The Society (2019)
To close the list, how about remembering another very promising series from the streaming giant? The Societywas even renewed for a 2nd season, but the coronavirus pandemic threw all expectations in the trash.
Created by Christopher Keyser, the production follows a group of teenagers who, one day, realize that their parents have disappeared. Therefore, they need to reorganize themselves socially to continue to live. The production was loosely inspired by the literary classic The Lord of the Fliesby William Golding.
