The Kremlin hopes that the visit to Ukraine by the leaders of Germany, France, Italy and Romania will help Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to see “the real state of affairs”.

“We hope [os líderes europeus] use their contacts to make Zelensky see the real state of affairs,” said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov added that Moscow also hopes the visit “will not just focus on helping Ukraine through future arms supplies.”

“This is absolutely useless, it will prolong people’s suffering and will only cause further damage to the country,” he said.

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev also said on Wednesday that sending more Western weapons to Kiev was “counterproductive”.

“It just artificially prolongs the conflict and also causes more casualties and human destruction,” said Patrushev.
