Aloizio Mercadante confirmed this Friday that the Minister of Defense of the Lula government will be a civilian and not a military one, as it currently is in the administration of Jair Bolsonaro.
Mercadante coordinated the government program of Lula’s presidential campaign and is now part of the transition efforts. According to him, the team is looking for a “very representative group” for the task of dialoguing with the Armed Forces.
“The president has already said this publicly, that the Minister of Defense will be a civilian. He was a civilian in his first governments and he will be now,” he said.
