Astana-Qazaqstan has to do it in the Tour without Miguel Ángel López. “Superman” hasn’t been superman for a while now. The Colombian is still struggling with a hip injury, which also caused him to step out of the Tour of Italy earlier in the season.
Since his sixth place in the 2020 Tour de France, in which he won the stage with the finish at the Col de la Loze, he has not completed a single Grand Tour. Last year he got angry at Movistar on the penultimate day in the Vuelta, after he openly argued about the tactics. It led to a breach of contract with Movistar.
Superman has become rather a worry child. His best season is now four years behind him. Then the 28-year-old Colombian finished third in both the Giro and the Vuelta. López’s forced forfeit is also a loss for Vinokourov’s team. Vincenzo Nibali previously indicated that he will no longer ride the Tour in his farewell year. All that remains is Alexey Lutsenko.
