NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg defended this Tuesday that Kiev needs “more heavy weapons” to combat the advance of Russian forces in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.

“Yes, Ukraine should have more heavy weapons,” Stoltenberg stressed during a press conference in The Hague, following a meeting with leaders from seven European countries that are members of the Atlantic Alliance, including Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa.

In recent weeks, Russian forces have focused their offensive on Donbass, a region that Ukrainian authorities say they practically control, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been appealing to the West to send more military equipment to stop Moscow’s advance.
