A newborn baby died on Wednesday after a Russian attack hit a maternity hospital in the Zaporijia region of southern Ukraine.
“The two-story building of the maternity hospital was destroyed as a result of a rocket attack in the city of Vilniansk, in the region of Zaporijia,” said the Ukrainian emergency services, quoted by the AFP news agency, adding that inside the maternity hospital, in addition to of the newborn, there was still “a woman in labor and a doctor”.
“As a result of the attack, a newborn baby died, the woman and the doctor were rescued from the rubble,” they added.
According to preliminary information, there was no one else trapped under the rubble.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of “terror and death”, referring directly to the attack that hit the maternity hospital.
“The enemy has decided once again to accomplish through terror and murder what it has not been able to do in nine months” since the Feb. 24 invasion, Zelensky said.
