The Niners Chemnitz start the play-offs with a defeat. At Bayern Munich, Chemnitz lost 53:77 (31:36).
Chemnitz – the Niners Chemnitz start with a defeat in the play-offs of the basketball league. At FC Bayern Munich, the outsider sold dearly in the first 20 minutes on Friday evening. After the change of sides, the vice-champion of the past two years upped the ante and ultimately won with 77:53 (36:31).
The visitors, without their suspended center Darion Atkins, started boldly and disrespectfully. Understandable, since the Niners had won all three duels with FC Bayern so far this season.
In the middle of the second quarter they were leading 27:23! Bayern countered with a 9-0 run and pulled away for the first time. At the break, Munich was 36:31 ahead.
Miserable in the first 20 minutes: the Niners quota from a distance. Of 15 three-way attempts, only two (!) ended up in the opponent’s basket. Also striking: the Bayern bonus for the trio of referees. The star ensemble was allowed to go to the free-throw line 20 times, 17 balls were in it.
FC Erzgebirge Aue: There are decisions after the Sachsenderby
Coach Rodrigo Pastore’s side were only awarded six free throws and converted three in the entire first half.
“I hope that we’ll get a little better after the break, get more defensive rebounds and stay focused on offense,” said Jonas Richter at half-time on Magentasport.
Unfortunately that didn’t happen. FCB came out of the dressing room much stronger and was leading by double digits for the first time 60 seconds after the restart (41:31). The hosts, who defended strongly and repeatedly forced Chemnitz to make emergency throws throughout the third quarter, drew on this cushion of points. In the last few minutes they ran 15:0, rushed to 60:40 and made the decision early.
The second play-off duel between the two clubs will take place on Sunday at 8.30 p.m. Then the Munich hosts again. Whoever celebrates three wins first, moves into the semi-finals.
