According to the latest ‘World Wealth Report’ from consultancy Capgemini, large fortunes worldwide continue to grow. In Belgium, wealth also grew during the second corona year, although it is going less quickly here than in Europe as a whole.
According to Capgemini, the number of people with investable assets of at least one million dollars (958,000 euros) increased by 7.8 percent between 2020 and 2021. Worldwide we can therefore speak of 22.5 million so-called High Net Worth Individuals† In 2014 there were only 14.7 million.
In all, just over 60 percent of dollar millionaires worldwide are concentrated in the US, Japan, Germany and China. North America, in particular, continues to do very well in terms of dollar millionaires. And Europe is rising slightly faster than Asia in the period 2020-2021.
The number of High Net Worth Individuals in Belgium rose by 5.6 percent between 2020 and 2021. Total assets increased by 6.5 percent. The main reasons for this are the recovery of our GDP in 2021, the high savings rate in our country and the real estate boom. In addition, there is also the increased market capitalization and higher share prices. By way of comparison: in Denmark, the wealth increased by a good 11 percent. France (+9.5 percent) and the UK (+7.4 percent) also performed well.
Finally, Capgemini points out that there are more and more women in the group of High Net Worth Individualsas well as millennials and people from the LGBTQ+ community.
