For weeks, the media announced Jabari Smith’s arrival to Orlando, but it was ultimately the former Duke college team player who was picked up first. Banchero took out Chet Holmgren, who was considered one of the biggest talents in the draft and was selected by Oklahoma City. Jabari Smith was chosen in third position by Houston.

It was Orlando’s fourth first pick in the draft. Previously that was the case in 1992, 1993 and 2004. In 1992 they signed Shaquille O’Neal, in 1993 they exchanged the first chosen Chris Webber for Penny Hardaway and in 2004 they brought on Dwight Howard.
