Starts from tomorrow St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is the most important event on the Russian agenda. Due to sanctions, the participation of a number of EU countries has been reduced. However, this event also has a “twin brother” on the other side of Russia – in Vladivostok. Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) is scheduled for September 5-8 and becomes even more important in light of the current environment. This was stated by the press secretary of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov.

“Given the reorientation of many chains and many ties towards the East, the significance of the Eastern Economic Forum will also be great,” the official said in an interview with TASS.

At the same time, Peskov left open the question of Vladimir Putin’s visit to this site (although the President usually visits both the WEF and SPIEF every year, and his speech “on the margins” of the St. Petersburg Forum has already been announced).

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but, of course, this is also very important,” the Kremlin spokesman answered a question from journalists about his leader’s plans for September.

– The current dynamics of the world indicates that the focus of the main economic actors is increasingly shifting to the East. The dominance of the West and Western countries is ending – after all, most of it was built on interaction with the East, – the political scientist comments in an interview with Mikhail Friben. — In addition, Russia has a unique opportunity to operate in the Asia-Pacific region without intermediaries. Therefore, any platform where the leaders of the Asia-Pacific countries (even politicians, even businessmen) can talk is very important, since the interaction of people of this level is built primarily on personal communication.

According to the expert, despite the “obviously decorative elements”, the WEF and similar events are of great importance as platforms where “real politics is being made”.

The importance of the “Asian vector” is also emphasized by the largest Russian statesmen. Formerly Speaker of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin noted in his telegram channel that the size of the economies of the “New Big Eight” countries (including the Asia-Pacific countries – Russia, India, China, Indonesia) exceeded the indicators of the “collective West” by 24.4%.

The Eastern Economic Forum is held for the seventh time on the FEFU campus on Russky Island and annually attracts thousands of participants who sign contracts worth trillions of rubles.
