A little later it was time, the whole family was pretty excited. But the task turned out to be not so easy. “We tried desperately to get the note out with tweezers and pliers but it started tearing a bit,” the mother-of-two explained.Edinburgh Live“.

In the end, the family had no choice but to smash the bottle. And what was the message now?

“James Ritchie and John Grieve laid this floor but they didn’t drink the whiskey. October 6, 1887. Whoever finds this bottle might think our dust is blowing across the street.” The note remained unnoticed and unread for a total of 135 years.

A friend of Eilidh’s eventually researched the workers and found that there were two men with the same names living in the Newington area in the 1880s. Newington is a district of Edinburgh.

Eilidh finally posted the find in a local one Facebook group and then got a lot of feedback.
