It is still not known whether the criminal groups operating in the area are the perpetrators of the act.
A National Police officer was injured and two others are missing, after an attack on a police station in the neighborhood of Ypytã, department of Amambay, which borders Mato Grosso do Sul. The injured policeman is out of danger.
It is not yet known whether the criminal groups operating in the area are the perpetrators of the act. The agents reported that a police officer at the scene that he is safe.
Commissioner Ruben Paredes, director of the Amambay Police, told the Ultima Hora website that they still have no information on the missing police officers.
“We have no contact with the staff because there is no signal there. An employee who had a signal called our people and that’s when the support operation began, ”he said.
A large contingent of the National Police and the Joint Task Force (FTC) went to the place to find out what really happened around 7:30 pm.
“We don’t know who the attackers were, I don’t want to be irresponsible by accusing an organization, we have to get to the scene. Only they asked for help and then the communication was cut because there is a cell phone signal here”, he added.
The location where the attack took place is in the Cerro Guazú area, where Osvaldo Villalba, the main leader of the self-styled Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP), died on October 23 after a confrontation with military forces.
Before confronting the military, the gang members killed two Paĩ Tavyterã indigenous people, identified as Alcides Romero and Rodrigo González. Furthermore, they would supposedly kill more people in the community for refusing to collaborate with them.
The arrival of members of the Joint Task Force led to the death of three members of the EPP.
Authorities described the operation as one of the most important in the entire history of the fight against the EPP, due to the fact that Villalba, considered the main leader of the group and who had been on the run for about 17 years, was killed.
