Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou and his wife Lorena Ponce de León have decided to separate after more than 21 years of marriage, a source close to the president told AFP, confirming information from the local press.
Lacalle Pou, 48, and Lorena, 45, have three children: Luis Alberto, Violeta and Manuel. They met as teenagers and got married in the year 2000. Eleven years later, they went through a crisis that led to them being separated for four months, the president said in an interview during the 2019 election campaign.
Graduated in landscaping, Lorena has been leading a program since 2020 dedicated to “stimulating culture and promoting the entrepreneurial spirit” of society. According to “El País”, she will remain at the forefront of this initiative.
