FC St. Pauli mourns the loss of its longtime stadium announcer Rainer Wulff, who died of cancer on Wednesday at the age of 79.

“Dear Rainer (…), it’s hard to imagine that things should go on without you – and it won’t be like that either, because you left traces that will last,” the neighborhood club wrote in one obituary on his website.

The 79-year-old will continue to be “in every game at the Millerntor, in countless hearts and countless memories,” it said.

For a total of 31 years, from 1986 to 2017, the author and former NDR journalist was the club’s stadium announcer and also known as the “voice of the Millerntor”.
