The goals at the Santiago Bernabeu were scored by Riyad Mahrez to make it 1-0 for the guests (73rd minute), Joker Rodrygo to make it 1-1 (90th) and 2-1 (90+2) and Karim Benzema to make it 3-1 for them Home team (95th).

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti made eight changes after securing the title with a 4-0 home win over Espanyol Barcelona.

Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Nacho Fernandez, Ferland Mendy, Toni Kroos, Fede Valverde, Vinicius Junior and Benzema replaced Lucas Vazquez, Jesus Vallejo, Marcelo, Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos, Sergio Asensio, Mariano Diaz and Rodrygo (all bench).

City coach Pep Guardiola made “only” four changes compared to the 4-0 win at Leeds United. Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Mahrez played for Nathan Ake, Ilkay Gundogan, Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish (all bench).

It started dynamically. Benzema headed over after Carvajal’s cross (5′), then there was a scuffle between Luka Modric and Aymeric Laporte, which led to discussions and a yellow card from referee Daniele Orsato against the brawlers (9′).

On the other hand, Thibaut Courtois had to intervene in the short corner against Silva’s powerful attempt and deflected the ball to the side (20′).

Then Gabriel Jesus aimed just wide with his flick (23′). A little later, a free-kick from Kroos caused danger, but only touched the side netting (27′).

Apart from that, both teams watched each other at a good level, but didn’t take the full risk. They acted defensively attentively, with full commitment, duel toughness and only allowed a little.

Courtois only had to intervene again in the 40th minute when Phil Foden shot from distance and skillfully deflected the attempt to the side. Since Benzema was offside when he shot and had aimed it too high anyway (43′), the goalless draw went into the dressing room.

However, just a few seconds after the restart, Los Blancos had a mega opportunity, but Vinicius Junior shot a sharp and low cross from Carvajal at the second post from a few meters completely alone (46th)! Then Courtois was the focus again, who captured an unplaced shot from Jesus (50th). The close encounter then rippled for some time before City scored.

The Gündogan brought in just before sent Silva great into the run. The Portuguese international attacked the defense at high speed and served Mahrez, who came in from the inside right position, who placed the ball on the inside of the right foot from eight meters and chased it into the short corner with great speed – 1-0 for the Skyblues (73 minutes). )!

As a result, Ancelotti made an offensive change and the royal team threw everything forward. But for the time being it was the guests who had several good opportunities.

However, Courtois blocked Joao Cancelo’s shot (85′), Grealish’s attempt cleared Mendy on the line (86′), then the England international aimed just wide of the far post (87′).

That should pay off bitterly. As so often this season, Real didn’t give up, but continued to accelerate and believed in their own strength. Substitute Camavinga passed from the center to the left into the penalty area to Benzema, who volleyed the ball into the middle, where Rodrygo pushed the ball over the line from close range – 1:1 (90th)!

And it was to get worse from a Manchester perspective. The guests faltered briefly, which Madrid took advantage of in the style of a world-class team. Carvajal crossed from the right with a lot of cutting into the middle, where Rodrygo screwed himself up and headed the ball beautifully into the left corner from a central position of seven meters – 2: 1 for the royals (90 + 2)!

A little later, Rodrygo could have shot his team into the final, but this time City keeper Ederson shortened the angle and saved (90+3). On the other side, Foden’s 14-metre shot went just over it (90′ + 4′).

After this turbulent and spectacular final phase, it went into extra time, where the next highlight could be seen directly.

Ruben Dias came too late in a duel with Benzema and put the French national striker clearly in the sixteen – penalty kicks were rightly awarded (93′)! The goalscorer went on himself, missed Ederson and shot low into the lower right corner – 3:1 for the Galactics (95th)!

Now it was the Cityzens who put the pressure on, but didn’t get through decisively for the time being. Courtois only had to be attentive once, defusing a Foden header (105+2) before half-time was in the extra time.

In the second round, the hosts threw themselves into every duel to the enthusiastic applause of the fans, sprinted with their last strength, claimed balls, provided relief and breathers, which is why the Skyblues didn’t get any significant chances. In this way, the royals really earned their place in the final. What an insane kick!
