Wives, mothers and other relatives of Ukrainian soldiers from the Azov regiment demonstrated on Thursday, May 12, in kyiv, to call for “saving the lives” of these men, entrenched for several weeks in the steelworks, the last pocket of Ukrainian resistance. in Mariupol.
“I implore the president, I implore everyone involved to help get them out, all our sons, our husbands, our fathers,” pleads Svetlana, mother of a soldier trapped in Azovstal.
The demonstrators say they fear for their lives, that they will be captured, tortured and killed by Russian forces, but also for their health.
“They have to amputate limbs, including for minor injuries, for lack of medicine. There is nothing. No water, no food. We cannot abandon these guys who fought for us”, confides Zhanna, wife of a fighter stuck in the steelworks.
According to kyiv, “more than a thousand” Ukrainian soldiers including “hundreds of wounded” are still in the underground galleries of this vast metallurgical complex.
