Romanian border police have found 26 migrants from Syria and Turkey hidden in a truck full of cans of hydrochloric acid bound for Europe.

The truck, which was on the Turkey-Germany route, was carrying highly corrosive and toxic chemicals, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported, citing border police in Arad, western Romania.

The migrants were discovered hiding inside the semi-trailer during a police inspection, decided after the border guard saw that the mandatory seal on these transports was broken.

According to the police, the truck was carrying 25 migrants from Syria and one from Turkey and was driven by a Turkish citizen who is being investigated on suspicion of human trafficking.

Romania, which is located close to the Schengen area and hopes to enter the European free movement zone within a year, has become a major transit point for migrants in recent years.

The vote on the country’s entry into the Schengen area was scheduled for December 8, but Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday that the date could be postponed “one or two months” to give more chances to gather affirmative votes. .
