Roughly 500 MEPs out of a total of 705 voted for the resolution. According to them, Russia is a state that “supports terrorism”, and, according to them, this country is using “terrorist means” in Ukraine.
“Russia has launched an illegal, unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine, attacking residential areas and civilian infrastructure and carrying out acts of terrorism across the country. As a result, thousands of Ukrainian civilians have been killed,” reads the resolution of the European Parliament adopted on Wednesday.
Wagners and Kadyrs on terrorist lists
According to the MEPs, the EU authorities should also include armed groups financed by Russia, such as the private paramilitary Wagner Group or the Kadyrovs, on the sanctions and terrorist lists. The Russian regime uses these groups for various actions with which it does not want to associate its army.
Russia wants to break the morale of Ukrainian civilians with attacks on infrastructure
EU member states should also limit diplomatic relations with Russia to a minimum. They should also end any cooperation with companies associated with the Wagner Group of Yevgeny Prigozhin, a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The number of documented war crimes in Ukraine is close to 40,000, and this number is expected to increase after war crimes in the recently liberated parts are documented,” MEPs say.
Article 11 of the adopted resolution also speaks of the fact that it would be appropriate to visualize the damage done by Russia in Ukraine more to the public. It is said that the restoration of Ukraine could be partly paid for from funds frozen to Russia and its citizens and companies connected to the country’s leadership and President Vladimir Putin.
